Man killed in Afghanistan to be laid to rest
NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A former Newton County Sheriff's deputy who was killed by a policewoman in Afghanistan will be laid to rest this weekend.
Joseph Griffin was shot to death Christmas Eve by an Iranian woman.
The 49-year-old Mansfield, Ga., man's body will arrive at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport at 2 p.m. Monday, according to Newton County Sheriff's Lt. Tyrone Oliver.
Law enforcement officials will escort Griffin's body back to Newton County.
Griffin's funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 5 at Wheeler's Funeral Home, which is located at 11405 Brown Bridge Road in Covington, Oliver said.
