Fulton County 4-H accepting applications for summer camp

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County Cooperative Extension is accepting applications for its 2015 4-H Summer Camp. 4-H Summer Camp is something to consider for your kids to experience creative fun and memories without heating up your wallet or credit card bills.

“Our 4- H Summer Camp has an exciting program for every age,” states Menia Chester, Director of Fulton County Cooperative Extension. “From the Clover Leaf Camp to the Senior Camp, students will enjoy the activities, make friends and create lifetime memories.”

Summer Camps:

Cloverleaf Camp is for grades 5th-6th. It will be held June 29-July 3, 2015 at Rock Eagle in Eaton. The cost is $295*. Participants will experience Pioneer Camping.

Burdett Tennis Center to host youth tournament

Burdett Tennis Center to host youth tournament

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County’s Burdett Tennis Center will host a youth tennis tournament this coming weekend, July 12 - 13.

The tournament will be a United States Tennis Association (USTA) sanctioned Jr. Tournament known as The Ernie Peterson Jr. Open Satellite. The tournament begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m. both days.

Former Harlem Globetrotter speaks out against bullying

(WXIA) -- A former Harlem Globetrotter will visit two Atlanta-area schools this week to teach children how to work together to prevent and stop bullying.

TyRone "Hollywood" Brown will stop by Norton Park Elementary School in Smyrna and Heritage Academy in southeast Atlanta on Tuesday, May 6. Both visits are sponsored by Gas South.

Brown is an ambassador for P.R.O. Kids Group, a non-profit organization that helps young people combat peer pressure. The group was founded by Harlem Globetrotters alumni.

Students at both schools will also receive copies of A Piece of Paper, a children's book written by Brown.

"This is such a unique opportunity for our students, and they could not be more excited to meet a Harlem Globetrotters alumnus in person," Doug Daughterty, principal of Norton Park Elementary, said in a statement.

Race this weekend: TriCities Run

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- This year's TriCities Run benefiting The Main Street Academy will be held Saturday, May 3.

Packet pickup and race day registration ($30) will begin at 6 a.m. near College Park City Hall.

The race has 5K and 10K options. Both runs will start at 8 a.m. and wind through three south Fulton County cities -- College Park, East Point and Hapeville.

All runners will receive T-shirts. Prizes will be given to the first male and female finishers and the top three male and female finishers in each age group.

Atlanta Track Club launches scholarship program

(WXIA) -- Youth running groups, rejoice -- the Atlanta Track Club has created a scholarship program just for you.

The Peachtree Jr. Participant Challenge will award scholarships to the three organizations that have the most children registered for the 2014 Peachtree Jr. or Lil' Peach Dash.

The first place team will be given a $1,500 scholarship, a $1,250 cash donation from the Atlanta Track Club and $250 in Sports Authority store credit. Two runners-up will each get $750 scholarships, $500 donations and $250 in Sports Authority credit.

"Through the Peachtree Jr. Participant Challenge, we are able to give back to organizations that share our goal of inspiring children to be healthier and more active," Atlanta Track Club Executive Director Rich Kenah said in a release. "Atlanta Track Club is proud to partner with Sports Authority to offer these scholarships to provide extra motivation to keep kids moving."

AJC Peachtree Road Race lottery registration is now open. It will close Saturday, Mar. 22 at 11:59 p.m.

AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt design contest open

ATLANTA -- Calling all artists: the AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt design contest is now accepting entries.

Designers have until Friday, Feb. 28 to submit their works of art. All entries will be whittled down to five finalists, which will be unveiled on ajc.com/peachtree on Saturday, Mar. 15.

No one will see the winning design until race day, when it will adorn tens of thousands of finishers' T-shirts.

"The AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt design contest is a great way to showcase the work of our local artists, and we are always impressed with the entries we receive," Atlanta Track Club interim executive director Sue Payne said in a statement.

Whoever wins the contest receives $1,000, while each of the four finalists gets $100.
