COLLEGE PARK, Ga.--  (submitted by Fulton County Fire)

The Fulton County Fire Rescue Department will host a multi-jurisdictional mock disaster drill on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Fulton County Public Safety Training Center (3025 Merk Road, College Park, GA) from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Participants in the drill include Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers from multiple jurisdictions. Those jurisdictions include Alpharetta, Atlanta, and Sandy Springs. The Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency are also expected to participate. The drill is funded by a grant through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security – Urban Area Security Initiative.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, including fire safety and disaster medical operations. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
