College Park City Manager to leave position July 20th

College Park, GA --

William E. Johnson, III has accepted the City Manager position for Petersburg, Virginia and expects to begin work there on July 25.  Johnson has served as College Park’s City Manager since July 2009.

“We hate to see William leave College Park, but I wish him great success in his future endeavors,” said College Park Mayor Jack P. Longino.

The move to Petersburg allows Johnson to be closer to family.  He is a native of Richmond, Virginia, located 32 miles north of Petersburg.

“Family is very important, and I’m pleased to have the opportunity to be closer to loved ones while leading this progressive city,” Johnson said.  “It’s great to come home, but this is bittersweet as we have great projects on the table as we work towards restructuring the City of College Park government.”

Johnson beat out 60 candidates to become city manager of Petersburg, a city of 33,000 residents.

The College Park Mayor and Council have named Hugh Austin as interim city manager.  Austin currently serves as Executive Director of the Georgia International Convention Center, the second largest convention center in Georgia.
