Airport's FOD Walk celebrates 10 years

ATLANTA -- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport held its 10th annual Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Walk this morning.

Nearly 200 volunteers searched for and removed debris from an airport runway.

Airport officials closed Runway 8L/26R and the north cargo ramp for about 30 minutes as participants with small trash bags scanned for FOD.

Many walkers returned empty-handed, but some removed small rocks and bits of paper from the 9,000-foot runway.

"This was another successful event. I'm extremely proud of the organizers and volunteers who braved today's 6:45 a.m. start time to support this cause and public awareness initiative," said Louis Miller, general manager of the airport.
