WHAT:           Commissioner Darnell will host a town hall meeting for residents of District 5 centered on the theme, Fulton County Taxes: The Real Story, “Everybody Pays, Who Benefits”. Topics of discussion include tax payers funding to MARTA, Grady, Justice System, County Jail, Libraries and more.

East Point Possums to take the stage this weekend

EAST POINT, Ga. -- One of the Southeast's largest drag shows will be held in East Point this weekend.

The East Point Possums will strut their stuff Saturday, June 15 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the Commons.

The visual spectacle will include 20 acts, food and great music. Admission is free; proceeds from food and drink sales go to Lost-N-Found Youth, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to helping homless LGBT kids.

Fulton County presents home rehab for seniors only

FAIRBURN, Ga. -- Fulton County seniors can learn more about Housing Rehabilitation issues during a Tuesday, June 11, 2013, Information Session at New Beginnings Senior Center.

The session begins at 12:45 p.m. and concludes at 1:45 p.m. New Beginnings is located at 66 Brooks Street in Fairburn.

The one hour program will provide information on Home Repairs. The information session is sponsored by the Fulton County Office of Housing and Community Developments, a division of the Department of Housing and Human Services.

Fulton County Cooperative Extension participates in Pizza Farm 2013

How do you expose urban youth to Georgia’s agriculture? You open a Pizza Farm!

The Cooperative Extension Metro Collaborative of Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Cobb and Clayton counties have invited 4th and 5th grade students to visit Pizza Farm 2013 on May 8 and 9, 2013 at the State Farmers Market Exhibit Hall located in Forest Park, GA. Attendees will learn how dairy, vegetables, grains and meats come together to make the perfect pizza, as well as about good health and nutrition. 

“We are excited about the Pizza Farm!” states Menia Chester, Director of Fulton County Cooperative Extension. “Many children think their food comes from the grocery store.  The Pizza Farm will teach them that every pizza starts at the farm.”

Exhibits on the origins of pizza ingredients will be presented in a circuit of stations set up around the State Farmers Market Exhibit Hall.

A community outreach event focused on providing services to pet owners in neighborhoods without affordable and accessible general pet wellness care will take place on Saturday in Atlanta.

Free cat and dog rabies vaccinations and licenses will be offered while supplies last.

The Humane Society of the United States, Fulton County Animal Services, UGA College of Veterinary Medicine’s Animal Welfare Club, Jabula Dog Academy, SnazzyPetUSA.com, Lifeline Animal Project, The Ark Animals Hospital and Save Our Pets Food Bank are hosting the event.

Spring Into Action Festival to be held Saturday

Spring Into Action Festival to be held Saturday

HAPEVILLE, Ga. -- This year's Hapeville Spring Into Action Festival will be held Saturday, Apr. 13 at the Tom E. Morris Sports Complex.

The fun will begin at 8 a.m. with a 5K, followed by a community parade at 10:15 a.m. and a tennis tournament at 10:30 a.m.

The actual festival begins at 11 a.m., with face painting, arts and crafts, a moon bounce, a DJ and more.

Admission is free; the 5K costs $20 to enter, with proceeds benefiting Fulton County Schools' Kids in Transition program for homeless students.
