The weekend roadwork is spreading

(WXIA) -- As 2015 rolls on, Georgia Department of Transportation crews will roll too -- to sites across metro Atlanta, where they will work on weekend road projects. (At least it will be sunny!)

This weekend, drivers are encouraged to avoid travel on the west side of Interstate 20 and the east side of I-285, if possible. Delays and lane closures are expected in both areas. All work is weather permitting.

Some of the scheduled projects include:

Cobb County
* 2 eastbound lanes of I-285 will be closed at I-75 Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. for bridge joint repairs.

DeKalb/Fulton counties
* 3 northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between I-20 and Ga. 400 from 7 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sign structure work.

Park 'N Fly falls victim to data breach

ATLANTA -- Park 'N Fly Inc. announced Jan. 13 a security breach involving payment card data processed through its e-commerce website.

The Atlanta-based offsite airport parking company said while the investigation is ongoing, it determined the security of some data from certain payment cards used to make reservations through Park 'N Fly's e-commerce website is at risk. The data potentially at risk includes the card number, cardholder's name and billing address, card expiration date and CVV code. Other loyalty customer data potentially at risk includes email addresses, Park 'N Fly passwords and telephone numbers.

The company said the data breach has been controlled and it is working with third-party data forensics experts to assist with its investigation.

Chipotle pulls pork from menu after animal welfare audit

Chipotle pulls pork from menu after animal welfare audit

NEW YORK -- Chipotle says it stopped serving pork at about a third of its restaurants after suspending a supplier that violated its standards.

Chris Arnold, a spokesman for the Mexican food chain, told The Associated Press it's the first time the company stopped serving a topping for its burritos and bowls. He said Chipotle learned of the violation by the supplier on Friday through a routine audit, and did not have a timeline for when carnitas would return to affected stores.

In New York City on Tuesday, a sign on the door of a Chipotle location stated, "SORRY, NO CARNITAS."

Arnold declined to specify the nature of the supplier's violation. But with pork, he said the most notable demand Chipotle makes of its suppliers is that pigs are raised in humane conditions.

Tips for cold weather plant protection

Tips for cold weather plant protection

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- When the weather report calls for freezing temperatures overnight, you do not want to be rushing outside in the dark to cover cold-sensitive plants.

According to University of Georgia experts, protect plants in containers either by placing them inside a protective structure (house, garage, greenhouse or shed) or by placing a protective covering over them.

“People put a lot of time and expense in caring for their plants,” states Menia Chester, Director of Fulton County Cooperative Extension. “It is important for them to know how to protect their investments to nurture them for growth when the weather is cold.”

Container plants are especially susceptible to cold temperatures; their roots are more exposed because they are above ground. Plants with roots that are damaged by cold temperatures may not show immediate signs of damage; these plants will show signs of stress when temperatures rise and the demand for water from the roots are greater.

Suit filed in Jacksonville against Jimmy John's, alleging unfair labor practices

Suit filed in Jacksonville against Jimmy John's, alleging unfair labor practices

(ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE) -- A federal class action lawsuit was filed Tuesday in Jacksonville, Fla., against Jimmy John's, alleging that the sandwich chain illegally underpaid assistant store managers throughout the country.

According to the complaint, "Regardless of the number of hours worked, Jimmy John's fails to pay [assistant store managers] any overtime compensation."

The chain has 24 metro Atlanta stores.

The company requires assistant store managers to perform food preparation and provide customer service as their primary duty, but classifies them as "executives" exempt from the overtime pay provisions, the lawsuit alleges.
